The Alabama Haunted Trail
Alabama's haunted places track the state's own long divide, from Gulf Coast port hotels in Mobile up through the Black Belt's antebellum courthouses and county jails to college towns and valleys further north. Around a hundred documented stops cover fire-era hotels, county lockups with genuinely difficult history, and campus buildings where one bad night became decades of student legend. Some of it is folklore layered on top of real hardship, and we try to hold both plainly rather than smooth them together. The featured loop threads several of those northern stops into one weekend drive, a starting point rather than the whole map.
