The Arkansas Haunted Trail

Arkansas hides its ghost stories in courthouse squares, antebellum parlors, and the hollows of the Ozarks, where century-old hotels and rural cemeteries carry stories passed down through families rather than tour scripts. The corpus spans nearly sixty publicly visitable sites, from Little Rock's governors' cemetery to Civil War battlegrounds in the southwest and a college theater near the Louisiana line. Most of what qualifies here is quiet: a courthouse walk, a cemetery stroll, an inn's dining room. The northwest corner holds the deepest concentration of stops, and that's where our featured weekend loop draws its route, a compact frontier-to-mountain itinerary built for a two-day trip rather than a statewide crawl.
