The South Dakota Haunted Trail

South Dakota's haunted map is really two landscapes stitched together: the wide-open prairie east of the Missouri River and the old mining towns packed into the Black Hills. Rapid City and Deadwood carry most of the built history, brick hotels and saloons that trace straight back to the 1870s rush, while the badlands and reservation lands to the south hold a longer and more complicated story that the network treats with care. Twenty-five stops make up the current lineup. One curated corridor through the Black Hills gives visitors the fastest route to the state's best-known haunts.
