The paranormal reputation of Blanchard Cemetery is concentrated in Section 2, the part of the grounds marked by a cluster of trees near its center — the same area described in the anonymous submission that first flagged this site. Multiple independent accounts (CL Harmon, Uniquelahoma, OK Haunted Houses) describe the most famous apparition: a tall man wearing black pants, often seen toward one side of Section 2, of whom witnesses say only the hands and trousers are clearly visible. The figure is reported to sometimes raise a hand and wave.

According to these accounts, visitors who return repeatedly describe the figure becoming more aggressive over time, with a few claiming he has brandished a knife. Some local interpretations hold that the figure may be a former caretaker of the cemetery, watching over family members buried nearby. Witnesses also report unexplained lights that brighten and then slowly dim, with no vehicle or other source to account for them.

A second strand of the lore describes a little girl seen walking among the headstones, sometimes accompanied by the sound of a child crying. Because these reports are anonymous and folkloric, we present them as the cemetery's reported tradition rather than as established fact. No named historical individual is tied to the apparitions.

Sacred Heart Mission Site and Cemetery

Konawa, OK

Sacred Heart Mission was founded in 1877 by Father Isidore Robot, O.S.B., a French Benedictine monk who had entered Indian Territory in 1875 and settled among the Citizen Band Potawatomi in the southeast corner of present Pottawatomie County. By 1880 the mission included a monastery, schools for Native American boys and girls, a technical institute, and a seminary; a large church followed in 1892 and the mission attained abbey status in 1896. A catastrophic fire destroyed most of the complex on the night of January 14-15, 1901. Though rebuilt, the community gradually relocated north - founding St. Gregory's College at Shawnee in 1915 and moving the abbey seat there in 1929. Sacred Heart Priory closed in 1955 and most buildings were razed; the site, cemeteries, and remaining structures survive as a historic landmark.
