Doorknob repeatedly falling out of upstairs door despite secure repairsObjects displaced from desk overnightPsychic medium sensed four spirits (two young boys, older man)General unexplained occurrences reported by caretakers over years

The reported activity at Stonewall Manor falls into two categories: physical anomalies and witnessed encounters. On the physical side, an upstairs doorknob repeatedly fell out despite being securely tightened on multiple occasions, and items placed on a desk were found on the floor the following morning.

During paranormal investigations, certified psychic medium Jennifer Pearce of Raleigh reported sensing at least four spirits on the property: two young boys and an older man. The older male presence may be connected to Bennett Bunn, who died in the house; a separate account mentions a young boy who died on one of the upstairs porches. No named individual has been formally identified as the source of the anomalies.

Onlyphantoms Paranormal (Jason Smith and Sterling Hunt) conducted two documented investigations at the manor. Two Rivers Paranormal (Jennifer and Bryan Grill) also investigated the site. The Ghost Guild has scheduled investigations and solicits visitor reports through a survey. The Friends of Stonewall board proposed public investigation nights emphasizing respectful inquiry rather than theatrical entertainment.

Notable Entities

Upper Marlboro, MD

Linville Manor in Upper Marlboro, Maryland occupies a site with documented occupation dating to the late 1600s. The original structure burned under unclear circumstances; Sarah Marie Bowie-Johnson built the surviving center-hall Georgian Revival manor in 1852-1854 on the charred foundation. The property held approximately 50 enslaved individuals at the time of Charles's death, with a separate burial plot on the grounds.

Arlington Antebellum Home & Gardens

Birmingham, AL

Arlington Antebellum Home & Gardens is Birmingham's only surviving antebellum Greek Revival mansion. The two-story frame house was built in the 1840s under the direction of Judge William S. Mudd, who acquired the property at public auction in 1842; the construction was performed by enslaved African-American laborers. During the 1865 Wilson's Raid the home served as a temporary Union headquarters under General James H. Wilson, which spared it from the destruction that consumed many surrounding properties. It is operated today as a decorative arts museum by the City of Birmingham and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
