The mansion at 10 Kimball Drive in the Handsboro area of Gulfport was built in 1915 by William Stewart, overlooking Bayou Bernard. During World War II, the property was leased to Keesler Air Force personnel, and local accounts documented gambling and prostitution operations during that period — circumstances that local legend later entangled with the building's paranormal reputation.
Dr. Kendall Gregory, a physician, and his wife Ginny moved their blended family into the mansion in 1957. Ginny Gregory recalled her first impression as simply 'not being alone.' Over the following years, residents and visitors reported strange noises, unexplained cold spots, glowing figures, and falling light fixtures. A child's jacket reportedly burst into flames on his bed. On November 22, 1963 — the day of President Kennedy's assassination — witnesses described blood appearing on the draperies and windows, though no physical source was found. The Sun Herald covered these events in 1963 and again in 1981.
In late 1969, the Gregorys invited Baptist minister Dr. David Bubar of Tennessee to conduct a séance. Bubar claimed to channel a spirit named Flossie, who described being forced into prostitution at the mansion during the wartime period and subsequently murdered. Witnesses reported the séance table moving across the floor unprompted.
On July 18, 1970 — the morning after another séance had been held on the second floor — fire broke out in the mansion. The blaze was traced to the upper story where the séance had taken place the previous evening. Bubar, when notified, expressed satisfaction, saying he believed the fire had released the trapped spirits. The ruins were eventually demolished and a new private house was constructed on the site in 1989.

Ginny Gregory's description of the house was terse: upon arriving in 1957, she felt she was 'not alone.' What followed over thirteen years was an accumulation of reported events that drew enough attention to reach the pages of the Gulfport Sun Herald twice — in 1963 and again in 1981.
The phenomena covered a range of categories: auditory disturbances including disembodied screams and unexplained noises; temperature anomalies described as cold spots; visible anomalies including glowing figures and falling light fixtures; and at least one reported spontaneous combustion — a child's jacket catching fire on his bed with no ignition source. The most dramatic reported event occurred on November 22, 1963: witnesses described blood appearing on draperies and windows inside the mansion as news of President Kennedy's assassination arrived. No physical explanation was established.
The 1969 séance added a specific narrative to the haunting. Dr. David Bubar, a Baptist minister from Tennessee who claimed mediumistic abilities, presided over the session. Witnesses reported the table moving. Bubar reported contact with a spirit identifying herself as 'Flossie,' who said she had been forced into prostitution at the property during the wartime period and killed there. No independent historical record of a specific victim named Flossie has been located in sources reviewed.
The fire of July 18, 1970 ended the chapter. By morning, the structure was destroyed; the blaze originated in the second-floor room where the previous evening's séance had been held.
