Male figure in dark clothing walking from picnic area to shoreline and vanishingSightings reported in daylight as well as nighttimeGeneral area described as having multiple wandering spirits at night

According to the Shadowlands account, on the stretch of Coquina Beach at the very southern tip of the island before the Longboat Key bridge, a male figure dressed in dark clothing walks repeatedly from the picnic area toward the water's edge and then disappears. Unusually for a ghost report, witnesses claim to have seen this figure during daylight hours, describing him as appearing 'totally out of place.' The area is also said to be frequented by other wandering spirits at night.

The tradition locates this apparition on the site of a former hotel that has since been converted to a public picnic area. The former hotel is referenced in the Shadowlands account but has not been documented independently.

No regional news sources, historical societies, or independent paranormal investigators have published corroborating accounts of this specific apparition at Coquina Beach beyond Shadowlands and its aggregator echoes.

A 1922 investigation by USGS scientist George R. Mansfield attempted to explain them as reflected headlights and brush fires but could not account for all reported sightings.
