Historic Atlas Theatre ranks #5 among Wyoming's ten most haunted places

A new index ranks places by published accounts, not legend

September 30, 2026

With Halloween approaching, Cheyenne's Historic Atlas Theatre ranks #5 among Wyoming's ten most haunted places in HauntBound's 2026 index. The index ranks 37 Wyoming sites by separate published accounts and how far back they go, not by fame or search popularity.

Historic Atlas Theatre, the 1887 downtown Cheyenne building architect William Dubois converted into a theatre in 1908, ranks #5. Four separate published accounts describe activity there, retold in six later publications. Cowboy State Daily wrote about orbs floating through the house, odd electrical behavior and voices captured on recordings during paranormal investigations, and local station Y95's 'Haunted 307' feature describes a woman in white who appears at the second-floor windows and vanishes when noticed.

Statewide, Fort Laramie National Historic Site ranks #1, and Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park, the state's most famous haunted site, ranks #8.

"We rank by evidence, not legend: independent published accounts, documented history, and how far back the reports go. We don't claim ghosts are real, or that they aren't. We document where the reports concentrate, and we show our work," said Ben Fineman, editor of HauntBound. The ranking shows each site's documented record.

Visiting:Historic Atlas Theatre, 211 W Lincolnway, Cheyenne, hosts Cheyenne Little Theatre Players productions year-round and is a stop on the city's trolley ghost tour, which runs Friday and Saturday evenings in October.
