Est. 1893 · Only Surviving High Victorian Structure in Corpus Christi · Charlotte Cook Scott Sidbury — Prominent Early Texas Businesswoman · Patrick Dunn Family Residence
The Sidbury House was built in 1893 at 1609 North Chaparral Street, commissioned by Charlotte Cook Scott Sidbury as a rental property. Sidbury was a prominent businesswoman, rancher, and civic leader in early Corpus Christi; she never lived in the house she built. The structure stands today as the only surviving example of High Victorian architecture in the city.
Among the home's occupants was Padre Island rancher Patrick Dunn (1858–1937) and his family. During the Dunn family's residence, a child died of fever in the home — a detail that has attached itself to the house's paranormal reputation. The specific child and circumstances are not documented in available historical records beyond the family connection.
The house was moved from its original location to Heritage Park in 1927, becoming part of the city's collection of historic Victorian-era homes. The Junior League of Corpus Christi restored it in 1977. Today it sits within Heritage Park at the north end of downtown, surrounded by ten other historic structures managed by the City of Corpus Christi Cultural Services program.

The paranormal activity at the Sidbury House clusters in the upstairs rooms, particularly the children's bedroom. Visitors and paranormal investigators consistently describe dolls and small objects rearranging themselves without apparent cause — the items found in different positions between visits or during investigation sessions. This detail is specific enough and reported often enough that it appears in multiple independent accounts from tour operators and local media.
A child's ghost has been seen moving through the second floor. Most accounts attribute this to the child of the Dunn family who died here in the late nineteenth century. A second figure — a woman — has been reported standing at the upstairs window, visible from the street, in a house that is otherwise unoccupied.
At ground level, visitors describe a consistent sensation at the front door: the feeling of being observed from the entryway even when the visible interior is empty. RJA Ghost Tours includes the Sidbury House as a regular stop on its Heritage Park walking segment, citing these phenomena as among the most reliably reported in their Corpus Christi tour history.
