Est. 1851 · Texas Historical Landmarks · Victorian Architecture Preservation · Tejano Cultural Heritage · Corpus Christi History
Heritage Park was established to preserve a collection of historic homes that would otherwise have been lost to urban development in Corpus Christi. The park contains eleven structures relocated or preserved at the N. Chaparral site, some of which are officially designated Texas Historical Landmarks.
The Sidbury House, built in 1893, is the architectural centerpiece — the last standing example of High Victorian design in Corpus Christi. Its features include wraparound verandas, balconies, steep rooflines, decorative woodwork, and a distinctive Moorish arch over the front steps. The Gugenheim House features a square turret with gingerbread trim typical of the period. The Lichtenstein House blends Colonial Revival simplicity with Victorian detailing.
Several houses operate as active cultural institutions. The Lichtenstein House is home to the Instituto de Cultura Hispánica Museum. The Grande-Grossman House became the Tejano Civil Rights Museum in 2015, focusing on Tejano and Mexican-American cultural history in southern Texas.
The park is managed by the City of Corpus Christi's Cultural Services division. Only outdoor self-guided tours are currently available on a walk-in basis; interior access varies by individual institution hours.

Paranormal investigation of Heritage Park has been conducted by multiple teams. The Sidbury House carries the most developed activity record: a child's apparition reported on the second floor, responsible for knocking items from surfaces, and dolls observed repositioned between visits. Staff have also reported a woman's figure seen at the upstairs window from outside the building.
The Galvan House generates a specific and consistent account — visitors describe being tapped on the shoulder by something not present, and auditory phenomena of footsteps climbing the staircase toward the attic without a visible source. These reports come from multiple independent visitor accounts.
The Ward-McCampbell House is associated with a female spirit named Mary, said to have died in the house after contracting pneumonia. Tour guides report encountering difficulty entering the building — a sensation of resistance at the doorway — which they attribute to Mary's presence. The same accounts describe her appearing to passersby outside the house.
RJA Ghost Tours has operated formal guided paranormal walks through Heritage Park and incorporates the individual house histories into a structured narrative covering the park's collective record.
