Baltimore Ghost Tours was founded by Amy Lynwander and Melissa Rowell, who conducted community research, interviewed residents and bar owners, and reviewed library documents before launching their first Fells Point walking tour in October 2001. The founders published a book, 'Baltimore's Harbor Haunts: True Ghost Stories,' in July 2005, and expanded into Mount Vernon with a second tour beginning in September 2007.
The company is a Certified Authentic Baltimore Tour, a member of the Baltimore Convention and Visitors Bureau and Fells Point Main Street, and listed with the Maryland Office of Tourism. It has been featured by the Travel Channel, the Baltimore Sun, NBC, CBS, and Fox45, among other outlets. Baltimore Ghost Tours holds federal and state trademarks on its name, and a 2024 Baltimore Banner article documented the company fielding calls and reviews meant for the unaffiliated national chain US Ghost Adventures, which separately runs a Baltimore program departing from the same Broadway Square/Max's Taphouse area of Fells Point.
Tours run Friday and Saturday nights from March through December, with the Fells Point walks departing near Max's Taphouse and the Mount Vernon walk departing outside the Belvedere hotel.
