Est. 1883 · Marco Island Founding Era · 19th-Century Florida Hospitality · Captain William Collier Heritage
The Olde Marco Island Inn stands at 100 Palm Street on Marco Island, on Florida's southwest Gulf coast. Captain William 'Bill' Collier, an early Marco Island settler, built the original structure in 1883. The inn is one of the oldest surviving buildings on the island and predates much of the area's modern development.
The hotel went through several operating phases over the 20th century. The inn portion of the building stopped functioning as regular lodging in 1954, while the structure itself continued to anchor a restaurant and event business. In 1999, two new suite towers were added to the property, expanding overnight capacity while preserving the original building as a public-facing lobby and dining space. The on-site restaurant Bistro Soleil operated for many years inside the historic core; recent listings indicate Bistro Soleil is closed, though the inn's hospitality operations continue.
The Olde Marco Inn is part of Marco Mystery and History Tours' regular tour rotation, alongside other Marco Island landmarks. The property remains a registered historic site within Collier County's broader 19th-century settlement record.

Reports at the Olde Marco Inn cluster in the original Captain Collier building, now used for the inn's lobby and dining room rather than for guest rooms. The pattern of phenomena described by guests and staff is consistent across decades of regional reporting: footsteps overnight, voices in empty rooms, cold drafts, and occasional reports of chairs that have moved between visits to a room.
Local interpretation places the activity in the context of a romantic tragedy said to have occurred at the inn more than a hundred years ago. Coastal Breeze News and Fox 4 in Florida have both summarized the local tradition in features on the property; the original Shadowlands index entry described nighttime activity in similar terms.
Marco Mystery and History Tours, an independent walking-tour operator, includes the Olde Marco Inn on its regular Marco Island circuit. Visitors interested in the folklore are best served by booking the tour, which contextualizes the inn within the island's broader 19th- and early-20th-century history.
