FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Clark County holds three of Nevada's ten most haunted places

A new index ranks places by published accounts, not legend

September 30, 2026

With Halloween approaching, three Clark County places rank among Nevada's ten most haunted in HauntBound's 2026 index. The index ranks 65 Nevada sites by separate published accounts and how far back they go, not by fame or search popularity.

Pioneer Saloon ranks #3. George Fayle built the pressed-tin saloon in 1913. It staged the January 1942 search for actress Carole Lombard, killed in a nearby plane crash; a back room holds a memorial to her and Clark Gable. Six separate published accounts describe activity there. Visitors describe a presence near the memorial, an elderly prospector at the bar, and Paul Coski, a gambler shot in a 1915 poker dispute.

Hoover Dam ranks #5. Bureau of Reclamation surveyor J.G. Tierney drowned in the Colorado River in 1922; his son became the dam's last of 96 construction deaths 13 years later, on the same date. Six separate published accounts describe activity there. Workers describe shadowy figures in the generator hall and sounds in the diversion tunnels.

Also in the top ten: Zak Bagans' The Haunted Museum (#9, visits by guided tour only).

Statewide, the Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah ranks #1; the Goldfield Hotel (closed; exterior viewing only), the state's most famous haunted site, ranks #6.

"We rank by evidence, not legend: independent published accounts, documented history, and how far back the reports go. We don't claim ghosts are real, or that they aren't. We document where the reports concentrate, and we show our work," said Ben Fineman, editor of HauntBound. The ranking shows each site's documented record.
