FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Omaha's Museum of Shadows ranks #1 in Nebraska's haunted index
A new index ranks places by published accounts, not legend
September 30, 2026
With Halloween approaching, Omaha's Museum of Shadows ranks #1 among Nebraska's ten most haunted places in HauntBound's 2026 index. The index ranks 32 Nebraska sites by separate published accounts and how far back they go, not by fame or search popularity.
Museum of Shadows ranks #1. Nate Raterman began collecting objects he believed were haunted in 2006, and he and his wife, Kaleigh, built the collection into the museum, settling into the Christian Specht Building in Omaha's Old Market district in 2020. Seven separate published accounts describe activity there. The Ratermans say security cameras have captured the doll Ayda shifting position and trying to climb out of her display box, and visitors describe being touched and hearing disembodied voices.
Statewide, Fort Robinson in Crawford, the state's most famous haunted site, misses the top ten.
"We rank by evidence, not legend: independent published accounts, documented history, and how far back the reports go. We don't claim ghosts are real, or that they aren't. We document where the reports concentrate, and we show our work," said Ben Fineman, editor of HauntBound. The ranking shows each site's documented record.
