FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pikesville's Druid Ridge Cemetery is Maryland's most haunted place
A new index ranks places by published accounts, not legend
September 30, 2026
With Halloween approaching, Druid Ridge Cemetery in Pikesville ranks #1 among Maryland's most haunted places in HauntBound's 2026 index. The index ranks 87 Maryland sites by separate published accounts and how far back they go, not by fame or search popularity.
Druid Ridge Cemetery ranks #1. General Felix Agnus, a Civil War veteran and longtime publisher of the Baltimore American, commissioned an unauthorized 1926 bronze copy of Augustus Saint-Gaudens' Grief for his grave, and it became known as Black Aggie. Nine separate published accounts describe activity there, the earliest dated to 1920. Local teenagers have long dared each other that her eyes glowed red at midnight and that grass would not grow in her shadow. The statue itself has stood in Washington, D.C. for more than fifty years; an empty pedestal now marks its former spot at Druid Ridge.
Statewide, Antietam National Battlefield, the state's most famous haunted site, ranks #7.
"We rank by evidence, not legend: independent published accounts, documented history, and how far back the reports go. We don't claim ghosts are real, or that they aren't. We document where the reports concentrate, and we show our work," said Ben Fineman, editor of HauntBound. The ranking shows each site's documented record.
