FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alexandria's Hotel Bentley ranks Louisiana's second most haunted place
A new index ranks places by published accounts, not legend
September 30, 2026
With Halloween approaching, Alexandria's Hotel Bentley ranks #2 in HauntBound's 2026 index of Louisiana's most haunted places. The index ranks 103 Louisiana sites by separate published accounts and how far back they go, not by fame or search popularity.
Hotel Bentley ranks #2. Joseph Bentley, a timber baron, commissioned architect George R. Mann to build the Renaissance Revival hotel, which opened in August 1908, and in 1940 and 1941 Generals Dwight D. Eisenhower, George S. Patton Jr., Omar Bradley and Joseph Stilwell used it as a base during the Louisiana Maneuvers. Seven separate published accounts describe activity there. Staff and guests have reported seeing Bentley, who died in 1938, on the third floor and in the Mirror Bar, and the Syfy program Ghost Hunters investigated the hotel in 2011, documenting footsteps in empty corridors, elevator anomalies and the smell of cigar smoke with no identifiable source.
Statewide, Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans ranks #1.
"We rank by evidence, not legend: independent published accounts, documented history, and how far back the reports go. We don't claim ghosts are real, or that they aren't. We document where the reports concentrate, and we show our work," said Ben Fineman, editor of HauntBound. The ranking shows each site's documented record.
Visiting:Hotel Bentley, 200 DeSoto St., Alexandria, is a working hotel; rooms are for overnight guests, and the Mirror Room lounge and Bentley Room restaurant are open to the public.
