Two Eureka Springs hotels rank among Arkansas's ten most haunted places
A new index ranks places by published accounts, not legend
September 30, 2026
With Halloween approaching, two Eureka Springs hotels, the 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa and the 1905 Basin Park Hotel, rank among Arkansas's ten most haunted places in HauntBound's 2026 index. The index ranks 62 Arkansas sites by separate published accounts and how far back they go, not by fame or search popularity.
The 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa ranks #2, and its seven separate published accounts, the earliest dated to 1900, are the most of any Arkansas site. Norman Baker, a radio personality, bought the hotel in 1937 and reopened it as the fraudulent Baker Cancer Hospital, where patients paid for worthless treatments until his 1940 conviction for mail fraud. Guests describe a poltergeist named Michael, an Irish worker killed in an 1880s construction accident, reported in Room 218, with cold spots and EVP recordings elsewhere in the building. The Crescent is also Arkansas's most famous haunted site.
The 1905 Basin Park Hotel ranks #10. The limestone hotel replaced the Perry House, an 1881 hotel built by Captain Joseph Perry that burned in 1890. Three separate published accounts describe activity there. Visitors describe figures in 1920s dress on the long-closed fifth floor, and a woman in Victorian dress descending the main staircase before vanishing on the landing. Her biography is not consistently documented.
Statewide, the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa in Hot Springs ranks #1.
"We rank by evidence, not legend: independent published accounts, documented history, and how far back the reports go. We don't claim ghosts are real, or that they aren't. We document where the reports concentrate, and we show our work," said Ben Fineman, editor of HauntBound. The ranking shows each site's documented record.
