Prescott's Hassayampa Inn ranks #10 among Arizona's most haunted places

A new index ranks places by published accounts, not legend

September 30, 2026

With Halloween approaching, the Hassayampa Inn in Prescott ranks #10 among Arizona's ten most haunted places in HauntBound's 2026 index. The index ranks 116 Arizona sites by separate published accounts and how far back they go, not by fame or search popularity.

The Hassayampa Inn ranks #10. Trost & Trost, an El Paso architecture firm, designed the hotel, which was funded by local businessmen and opened in 1927; it joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Four separate published accounts describe activity there.

Staff and guests call the resident presence "Faith," after the story of a honeymooning bride who checked into an upper-floor suite in 1927 and died there after her husband left and did not return. Guests describe crying at the end of their beds, a woman in a pink gown glimpsed in the hallway, and kitchen staff who avoid discussing her while working the stove after gas burners reportedly switched off unprompted. No newspaper archive has turned up to confirm the story, though the hotel maintains it as part of its history.

Statewide, London Bridge in Lake Havasu City ranks #1, and the Bird Cage Theatre in Tombstone, the state's most famous haunted site, ranks #3.

"We rank by evidence, not legend: independent published accounts, documented history, and how far back the reports go. We don't claim ghosts are real, or that they aren't. We document where the reports concentrate, and we show our work," said Ben Fineman, editor of HauntBound. The ranking shows each site's documented record.
