London Bridge ranks #1 among Arizona's ten most haunted places

A new index ranks places by published accounts, not legend

September 30, 2026

With Halloween approaching, London Bridge in Lake Havasu City ranks #1 among Arizona's ten most haunted places in HauntBound's 2026 index. The index ranks 116 Arizona sites by separate published accounts and how far back they go, not by fame or search popularity.

London Bridge ranks #1. Robert P. McCulloch, who founded Lake Havasu City, bought the 1831 London Bridge at auction in 1968 and had its granite blocks shipped stone by stone from England, rededicating the rebuilt span over a new channel on October 10, 1971. Four separate published accounts describe activity there, the earliest dated to 1972.

Local ghost-walk guides describe figures in old English dress near the bridge's steps and a woman in a dark dress who reportedly ignores questions from tourists. A popular legend holds that the ghost of Jack the Ripper crossed the ocean with the bridge's transplanted stones, though the record traces no documented link between the London killer and the bridge itself. Ghost Adventures explored the bridge's reputation in a 2020 episode.

Statewide, the Bird Cage Theatre in Tombstone, the state's most famous haunted site, ranks #3.

"We rank by evidence, not legend: independent published accounts, documented history, and how far back the reports go. We don't claim ghosts are real, or that they aren't. We document where the reports concentrate, and we show our work," said Ben Fineman, editor of HauntBound. The ranking shows each site's documented record.
