Del Mar College was established in 1935 as Corpus Christi Junior College and has served the South Texas region as a public community college for nearly a century. The East Campus is one of the institution's primary campuses in Corpus Christi, operated by the Del Mar College District.
The Memorial Classroom Building on the East Campus holds a historical marker recognizing its role as a gathering place during the Chicano movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s. During this period, the building hosted meetings and civil rights speeches that were significant to the political organizing of South Texas's Mexican American community.
The campus continues to operate as an active community college. The East Campus is a functioning educational facility with no restricted access for general visitors during college hours.

Phantom soundsObject movementDisembodied laughter
Room 222 in the Memorial Classroom Building is the specific location. Custodial and security staff who work the building during late hours have reported sounds coming from inside the room — howling and laughter — that stop when someone approaches to investigate. The room is always empty when opened.
The furniture incident is the most concrete account. A security guard on a night shift heard what sounded like furniture being dragged and repositioned inside Room 222. After investigating, he entered the room and found it had been physically rearranged. The building was locked; no one else was documented to be in the facility.
The accounts are consistent across staff who work the building's night and early morning hours, suggesting the phenomena are not isolated to a single witness. No historical event tied to Room 222 specifically has been identified in available records that would provide a conventional explanation.
