Est. 1802 · Schoharie County Heritage · Early National Period Architecture · Cobleskill Landmark
The building at 105 Park Place is the oldest structure in Cobleskill, dating to 1802. Its two centuries of occupation have produced the accumulated social history of a small upstate New York town: private residences, commercial enterprises, and the various owners who moved through them.
The building's current incarnation as the Bull's Head Inn — a traditional American restaurant and tavern — continues a hospitality use that has characterized the property across much of its history. The venue underwent a period when it was closed or undergoing renovation; accounts differ on the specific timeline. By 2025 it was fully operational, hosting Restaurant Week specials in February and Easter dinner in April.
The establishment describes itself as a 'comfortable and friendly community gathering place' — a description consistent with a building that has served Cobleskill in some capacity since the early national period.

The primary apparition at the Bull's Head Inn operates on a principle of institutional objection. Mrs. Grace Steacy, identified in the building's haunted lore as a former resident and member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, reportedly finds the bar's presence in what was once her bedroom intolerable. The bar was established in that room at some point after her tenure, and the accounts suggest she makes her position clear.
Staff working late have described a woman in a long white dress or nightgown moving through the first-floor dining room. Silverware has been found thrown from table surfaces. Glasses are knocked over without apparent cause. Napkins are displaced. The phenomena are consistent enough across reports that the building's operators are aware of them.
A second figure is associated with the upper floor: the ghost of a daughter of one of the building's earlier owners, who reportedly died in a fire in the home. She has been described as sitting in a rocking chair. The specificity of this account — a named relationship to an owner, a death in a fire — is unverified in documentary sources.
