Est. 1969 · Vocational Education History · Technical Training Facility · Camden County Educational Infrastructure

The Camden County Technical Schools system was established to provide specialized vocational and technical education to high school and adult students across Camden County. The Gloucester Township Campus, located in Sicklerville, opened in 1969 as the district's second high school campus.

The decision to establish the Gloucester Township location reflected the countywide school district's goal of expanding access to technical and vocational education throughout the county, particularly in the eastern and more rural portions of the region. The campus was constructed on a substantial 170-acre property, allowing for extensive practical training facilities, shop spaces, and educational infrastructure required for comprehensive technical education programs.

The school has operated continuously since 1969, maintaining its mission of preparing students for skilled trades and technical careers. The facility includes boiler rooms, heating systems, electrical infrastructure, and other building support systems typical of large institutional complexes. Security patrol operations, including night-time coverage, have been standard practice to protect the facility and its equipment.

The death of a boiler room operator named Louie in the late 1970s or early 1980s during the midnight shift marked one of the facility's most significant incidents. The boiler room at technical schools like this one represents a critical infrastructure space—high-temperature, high-pressure systems requiring skilled maintenance and constant monitoring.

Berry's Chapel

Quinton, NJ

Berry's Chapel originated as a Methodist house of worship built by John Berry in the Civil War era, serving an African-American community in the New Jersey pine woods. The chapel was abandoned in 1923 following the establishment of a replacement church, Haven M.E. Church, on Route 49. The original structure burned down, leaving only the cemetery as a remnant of the historic African-American settlement.
