Rosie's Restaurant & Pub's paranormal activity centers on documented security-camera footage from 2022, with corroborating coverage in the Portland Press Herald. According to the Press Herald's October 2023 feature on Maine's haunted hospitality venues, security video from January 2022 shows the bar's jukebox turning on all by itself at about 4:30 a.m. The phenomenon recurred repeatedly through the year, with upstairs apartment residents complaining about full-volume rock-and-roll playing in the empty closed restaurant in the middle of the night. The activity stopped only after staff unplugged the machine each night, leading them to nickname it 'the Jukebox from Hell.'

A separate, more dramatic incident on a night in August 2022 at 1:30 a.m. was also caught on the restaurant's security cameras: two chairs that had been placed legs-up on a table at closing fell from either side of the table simultaneously, and a wall-mounted television fell from its bracket. The restaurant was closed and no one was inside.

Rosie's is a regular stop on Old Port ghost walks, and the security-camera incidents have become a recurring talking point of Portland's Halloween-season coverage. Because two of the three core incidents have direct video documentation in a covered newsroom feature, the listing is well-positioned to ship at published status.

Nelsen's Hall & Bitters Pub

Washington Island, WI

Nelsen's Hall has operated on Washington Island in Door County since 1899, founded by Danish immigrant Tom Nelsen as a dance hall. During Prohibition, Nelsen obtained a pharmacist's license solely to dispense Angostura Bitters as medicinal alcohol — a ruse that kept the establishment open and established the Bitters Club tradition still maintained today. Nelsen died at age 90 in an upstairs room in 1960.
