Andy's Old Port Pub occupies a 19th-century brick commercial building at 94 Commercial Street on Portland's waterfront, directly across from the harbor piers. The address sits on what was once the heart of Portland's wholesale pharmaceutical trade.
The building previously housed the John W. Perkins Company, a wholesale pharmaceutical firm founded in 1853 and adopting the John W. Perkins Company name in 1855. The Perkins operation distributed medicines, chemicals, and patent remedies across northern New England for decades.
The building has hosted multiple tavern operations in the modern era. Andy's Old Port Pub was originally established in 2007 and is the present-day operation; following a brief 2019 closure, the pub was re-established in 2020 under continuing ownership.
The pub is open daily, serving pub fare, an extensive local-beer list, and live music several nights a week. It is a stop on Portland Old Port walking tours and the American Ghost Walks Portland Ghost Walk route.
Sources
Andy's Old Port Pub's resident ghost is named Betsy. According to WGME and the Portland Old Port feature, staff lore holds that Betsy died of a heart attack inside the building during its earlier life as the John W. Perkins Company pharmacy operation. A psychic medium on Hulu's 'Repossessed' (2023) is described as having confirmed her presence and her connection to the pharmacy era.
The most-cited paranormal activity centers on the rear pool-table area. Staff and guests describe hearing pool balls striking each other when no game is in progress, unexplained nudging when no one else is present, and items being hurled off shelves. Security cameras have captured dishes falling from tables with no one nearby — footage that became part of the 'Repossessed' episode.
Andy's was featured on Hulu's 'Repossessed' (2023) and the History Channel for these phenomena. The pub leans openly into its haunted reputation while operating as a working neighborhood bar, and it is a regular stop on the American Ghost Walks Portland Ghost Walk and Portland Old Port walking tours.
