Est. 1893 · Queen Anne Victorian Architecture · Savannah Historic District
The building at 102 W Hall Street was constructed in 1893 as a private residence for Captain Aaron Flint 'Rudder' Churchill, a celebrated Nova Scotia-born sea captain who settled in Savannah after founding the Churchill Steamship Line. Churchill and his wife Lois acquired the property following their 1874 marriage, though the house was not completed until the early 1890s. The Queen Anne Victorian design — 14-foot ceilings, 12-foot doors, tiled fireplaces, and carved woodwork — placed it among the more architecturally elaborate private residences on Savannah's south side, directly across from Forsyth Park.
After Captain Churchill's death, the property operated as a boarding house and later as an apartment building through much of the twentieth century. The conversion to a bed and breakfast took place in the 1980s. Owners Lori and Richard Blass purchased and ran the inn beginning in January 2000. The Harrison Family took ownership in 2016 and continued the bed and breakfast operation.
The inn has received recognition from Southern Living as a Top Ten Best B&B in the Southeast (2026) and holds WeddingWire Couples' Choice and The Knot Best of Weddings awards. It operates twelve rooms in the main house, including the Lafayette, Oglethorpe, and Greene rooms, plus a private Garden Cottage.

The haunting tradition at Forsyth Park Inn centers on Lottie Churchill, identified in the inn's folklore as a ward or adopted niece of Captain Churchill and his wife Lois. According to the accounts recorded by former owners and regional ghost-tour literature, Lottie witnessed what she believed was a betrayal involving a woman named Anna — the captain's wife's sister — and acted against Anna, poisoning her. After Anna's death, Lottie learned that Anna was in fact her biological mother. The shock destroyed her. She was committed to a mental institution and never returned to the house.
The apparition described at the inn presents as a young woman, moving quietly through the halls and the courtyard garden. Former owner Lori Blass described keys being thrown in the kitchen. Guests have reported televisions activating and changing channels without contact. The lower-level Rooms 10 and 11 and second-floor Room 8 accumulate the most guest accounts, though sightings are reported throughout the building.
Lottie is not characterized as threatening in any of the documented accounts. The pattern is one of restless, sorrowful presence — appearing briefly and withdrawing when noticed. The inn does not market itself primarily as a haunted destination, but it does offer the Haunted Savannah package, which pairs overnight stays with ticketed access to Savannah's broader paranormal circuit.
