Est. 1978 · Dallas Lower Greenville Landmark
The first Snuffer's opened in 1978, occupying a building on Lower Greenville Avenue in Dallas that had previously served as a pool hall. The restaurant became a Dallas institution known for its burgers and original cheddar fries — a signature menu item that built a loyal customer base over more than four decades. The chain has expanded to multiple locations across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but the Greenville Avenue address remains the original.
Local historians researching the site's history identified it as a probable location for a 19th or early 20th-century children's burial ground, citing the high child mortality rates of the era and the undocumented nature of informal burial sites in rapidly developing neighborhoods. No formal archaeological survey of the site has been conducted or publicly documented.
A second theory holds that the paranormal activity traces to a man stabbed to death in the doorway of the men's restroom in an incident predating the current restaurant. Paranormal investigator Jenny Snyder of the Dallas Area Paranormal Society has stated the building is 'definitely haunted' after conducting an investigation, though the full findings of that investigation are not publicly documented.
D Magazine covered the haunting in a 2016 article where employees described their experiences. NBC DFW produced a segment on the location titled 'Is Snuffer's Really Haunted' that further documented the employee accounts.

Since Snuffer's opened in 1978, staff accounts of paranormal activity have accumulated into one of the more specific documented records for a Dallas restaurant. Employees describe a cold chill that settles into the dining room without change in ambient temperature, glasses observed rising from tables or bar surfaces and then dropped. Multiple witnesses have described a shadowy figure seen at the corner of their vision that is gone when they turn directly toward it.
The most unsettling accounts come from after closing, when the building empties out: staff report the giggling of children and the sound of small feet on the floor — scattering, as one account described it, 'like children playing tag' — in a building that has been confirmed empty. These sounds are attributed to the children said to be buried below the building's current footprint.
Jenny Snyder of the Dallas Area Paranormal Society investigated the building and described it as 'definitely haunted.' A man reportedly stabbed in the men's restroom doorway is cited in some accounts as a secondary source of activity in that area of the restaurant.
D Magazine published a 2016 piece featuring employee accounts. NBC DFW aired a segment on the building's reputation. Snuffer's official 'About' page acknowledges the haunted reputation, citing 'legendary burgers, cheddar fries, and ghosts' in the same breath.
