Est. 1880 · Historic 1800s barn converted to restaurant · Notable for silo-shaped dining room · Destroyed in late-1990s fire
The Hayloft Restaurant occupied a barn originally built in the 1800s on what is now Lincoln Highway in Plymouth, Indiana. The building functioned as a working barn until the early 1970s, when it was converted into a restaurant with an attached silo serving as a distinctive circular dining room. The Hayloft was considered upscale dining and was the only restaurant of its kind in Plymouth. Reports of ghostly activity began essentially as soon as the restaurant opened. The restaurant was incorporated as Hayloft Restaurant Inc. on April 1, 1987. The building burned to the ground around 1998, with a neighbor reporting flames around 1:30 am; firefighters used a then-new aerial truck to fight the blaze from the roof. The restaurant did not reopen.

Apparition reported in the silo dining roomSmell of burning wood accompanying sightingsObjects reported moving or disappearing
Restaurant staff and dining patrons reported an apparition associated primarily with the silo dining room. Local tradition held that the figure was the ghost of a farmer who had died in an earlier fire on the property, an association reinforced by the smell of burning wood that frequently accompanied sightings. Reports of ghost activity ceased after the late-1990s fire destroyed the building. The legend is preserved in regional Indiana ghost-folklore collections.
