Est. 1915 · Early Pocatello commercial hotel · Oregon Short Line Railroad-era downtown
The Hotel Yellowstone opened around 1915-16 at 230 West Bonneville Street, one of the larger commercial hotels in early Pocatello during the city's growth as an Oregon Short Line Railroad hub. Local developer D.W. Standrod was involved in the building's development. The structure rises four stories and includes a basement level later described by visitors as maze-like.
After the hotel era, the building was converted to other uses. In 2018 it became home to the Yellowstone Restaurant, a steak and seafood operation; owners Rory and Jennifer Erchul have run the restaurant, with the 313 Whiskey Bar opening as a speakeasy in the building's preserved hotel lobby. The Erchuls' family of businesses also includes the Union Taproom.
The building's age and downtown prominence have kept it tied to Pocatello's history through more than a century of use. The 313 Whiskey Bar markets itself around the 110-year-old lobby and a large whiskey selection. KSL and the Idaho State Journal have covered the property both as a downtown dining destination and as a focus of paranormal interest, the latter culminating in a 2025 visit by the Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures.

Apparition of a girl in a white dressDisembodied voicesMoving objectsReported scratches
Reports collected by KSL and the Idaho State Journal describe a building that owners and staff consider unusually active. Jennifer Erchul has described unexplained scratching and a sense of being struck, while staff report disturbances in restrooms and the repeated sighting of a young barefoot girl in a white dress near the building's former reception area.
Local investigators with the Pocatello Paranormal Research team reported communicating with a spirit they recorded as 'Emmy,' which led them to connect the figure to Elvira Standrod, a daughter of developer D.W. Standrod who was known as Emma and who died at sixteen. That identification is a local interpretation rather than a documented fact, and the same family tradition appears in stories about the nearby Standrod Mansion; readers should treat the link as folklore.
The Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures, with Zak Bagans and his crew, filmed an investigation at the restaurant in November 2025, exploring the upper floors and basement; the episode was reported to air in 2026. The combination of long-running staff accounts, a local investigation, and the national broadcast has made the Yellowstone one of the most talked-about haunted sites in Pocatello.
