Downtown Turlock Storefront · Turlock Historical Society Ghost Walk Stop
Downtown Turlock's East Main Street retains a row of early-twentieth-century commercial storefronts, several of which the Turlock Historical Society features on its fundraising Ghost Walk. Main Street Antiques operates out of one of these storefronts at 208 East Main Street.
As an antique store, the building's inventory turns over constantly, with furniture and household objects arriving from estates and collections across the region and moving on to new owners. That churn of old objects is part of how Historical Society guides frame the shop's reputation: the merchandise carries histories of its own that the store cannot fully trace.
Beyond its role as a retail business, Main Street Antiques functions as one of the community anchors for the Ghost Walk itself, serving as a ticket-sales location alongside the Turlock Historical Society Museum on South Center Street. The Society uses the walk to raise funds and to keep the stories of downtown's older buildings in circulation.

Apparition of a woman
Main Street Antiques' reputation centers on a single, consistent report: a woman seen standing in one particular part of the shop. Turlock Historical Society board member Lori Smith told the Turlock Journal that "people will point to the same area and say they saw a woman standing there," describing it as a recurring account from different visitors rather than a one-time sighting.
No one has identified who the woman is. Smith offered a possible explanation rooted in the nature of the business, suggesting she could be linked to some of the items that come and go through the store. Because an antique shop's stock is in constant motion, the idea that an attachment might travel with an object is the frame the Historical Society uses for the sighting.
A student newspaper account from nearby Stanislaus State records the same story, describing the spirit of a woman who likes to make appearances at the shop. There is no claim of a death on the premises and no documented tragedy attached to the building. The report is presented on the Ghost Walk as an unexplained, repeated sighting and little more.
